Privacy
Bigger Than Game is built to know as little about you as possible. This page sets out everything the site keeps, where it's kept and for how long.
The short version
- No cookies, no accounts and no sign-up.
- No advertising, and nothing that tracks you from site to site.
- Your best score is kept in your own browser, not by us.
- Game statistics are anonymous: the only thing about you they record is your country.
- Feedback you send is emailed to us and also kept in our server logs for three days. Please don't include personal details in it.
In your browser
Your best score is saved in your browser's local storage, one number per game mode, so the game can show it next time and tell you when you've beaten it. It never leaves your device, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes it. We don't set any cookies.
When you play
The game asks our server for each question as you go, so that the hidden number isn't sent to your browser before you've answered. Like every website, the server sees your IP address when your browser connects. We use it for one thing: limiting how fast a single connection can play, to stop anyone copying the game's data. The limit forgets it within a minute, and it never goes into our logs or statistics.
To see how the game plays and keep it fair, the server records anonymous game events: when a run starts and ends, and for each answer the question number, the stat, whether it was right and the score. Each event carries the country your connection comes from (as Cloudflare reports it) and a random run number made for that run alone. There's no IP address, no details of your device or browser, and nothing that links one run to another or to you. These events are kept for three months.
Server logs
For three days, our server logs keep a short record of what happened: the start and end of each run (with the country, the score and the question that ended it), requests the server refused, and errors. Cloudflare can also log every request automatically, with its IP address and browser details; we've switched that off.
Feedback forms
The forms, Suggest a legend, Report a problem and the report on a card at the end of a run, send us what you type: the legend's name and your note, your note and the page you were on, or your note and the two players, the stat and the figures on that card. None of the forms asks for your email address or any other details, and we'd ask you not to put any in.
What you send is emailed to us, and we keep the email for as long as we need it to act on what you've told us. A copy is kept in our server logs for three days, with your country and nothing else about you.
Cloudflare Turnstile
Before a form sends, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that it's being sent by a person and not a bot. It loads only when you open a form, never while you're just playing. To make that check, Cloudflare processes your IP address, details of your connection and your browser's user agent, to detect and block bots, under the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum. We receive only whether the check passed.
Visit counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits: how many people view each page, where they arrived from, and their country and type of device, all in total. It doesn't use cookies or anything else stored in your browser, and it doesn't follow you across sites.
Who runs the site
Cloudflare hosts the site and runs its server, and serves the player photos from our own image address. The fonts are served by the site itself, so pages don't contact any font service. The link to GitHub in the footer takes you to GitHub, which has its own privacy policy.
No advertising or tracking
There are no adverts, no advertising or social media trackers, and no data sold or passed to anyone for marketing.
